Patriot League Student-Athletes Conclude Competition at NCAA Track and Field Championship

June 13, 2008

Center Valley, Pa. - Lafayette's Ashley Harbin, Army's John Mickowski and American's Carlos Jamieson all represented the Patriot League at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa this week, with all three seeing their season come to an end in the preliminary round.

Harbin just missed qualifying for the final round of the hammer throw, as she placed 14th after a toss of 60.70 meters in Wednesday's preliminary round. The top 12 finishers advanced to the finals, and Harbin was less than .5 meters from joining that group. Harbin was the first Patriot League student-athlete to compete in the NCAA Championship three times, doing so in consecutive seasons, after she placed third in the hammer throw at the NCAA East Regional.

Mickowski competed in the 1,500-meter dash on Thursday, finishing in 25th place overall with a time of 4:03.68. He was in 12th place out of 13 runners in his preliminary heat. Mickowski had advanced to the Championship when he won the men's 1,500-meter dash in a time of 3:50.94 at the East Regional.

Jamieson competed in the 5,000-meter run on Wednesday, placing 23rd in the field with a time of 14:49.01. He was in 12th place out of 13 runners in his preliminary heat. Jamieson qualified for the NCAA Championship by finishing in fourth place in the event at the East Regional.

The NCAA Track and Field Championship continues on Friday and Saturday.
